Same Mercury 75 Farmtrac 795DTC
Hi all - First post here so hopefully I can get some feedback. I am looking for some used parts for a SAME Mercury 75, or centurion 75. Its the same machine but I was having better luck finding information under the centurion name. Mainly I am looking for a new exhaust set up. It was going under the tractor but this past week cleaning up the manure pile, the muffler dug into the mud while backing up and bent and broke off. Id prefer to redo the exhaust to come up the side of the tractor rather than down and under because I deal with a lot of mud and clay in my area. The tractor does have a loader on it and there was a dealer in my area that used to sell these tractors but does not anymore. When I called awhile back they had the elbow bend (used) to convert it to an upright muffler but then the muffler was expensive if I went OEM. The problem that I see is that if I take off the pipe that is currently on the manifold, when I replace it with the elbow bend I wouldn't get a complete seal I think. The bolts look rusted real bad and I wouldn't want any to break off....I asked the dealer about a manifold and he said they don't make those anymore. Any info would be great. When I get a chance I can post pictures, cause everyone likes pictures.

Take your pics and removable bits to a muffler shop, too! Most will make up pipes, ells, etc cheaper than ordering OEM from a dealer. They can bend and swage just about anything. (Yeah, I worked at one & go to others for 'specialers')

Look for that one guy who keeps glancing over at you, and be patient until he ..... offers to do you up. Might hit a brick wall there, but 'it doesn't hurt to ask'. t o g

btw, bathe rusted bolts a few times with 50/50 ATF and acetone, well shaken, and allow it to loosen 'em up. (beats even Kroil, and I learned about it here ;))

I will have to give that a try for the rusted bolts but I do think they are a part of the manifold(I would like to avoid taking this off unless I have too). My wife's grandfather said to just get a wire and bend it the way I want the new pipe and take the wire to a muffler place. He has done that before but its been awhile.

This is just after I bought the tractor(spring 2016). I haven't done too much to it yet. Just added a quick canopy for shade and redid the step.

Be VERY carful having a muffler shop "bend up" a pipe for a tractor... ESPECIALLY on a bigger tractor like the OP's 75!

Tractors have "mandrel" bent exhaust, so they are full diameter through the bend, muffler shops don't... That means a BIG build up of heat behind every bend and the lack of free flowing exhaust and that means hotter exhaust temps!

It can and will cause over heating on heavy loaded machines.

Mandrel vs die? I'd hate to give a bum steer, but only experienced with Huth equipment in our shop, and 40 yrs ago. Don't think we had any of the 'ripple' dies. We did have several radii/dia in smooth and those were huge for 2 1/2" and larger tubes. It does all come down to ga, dia, and radius. :)

btw, rodders/racers who weld up exhaust headers or expansion chambers from 'kits' or plans might see something do-able there, but I've guessed 'near miss' a time or two.

Your air/oil cooled diesel needs free flowing exhaust... You can do what "I" did and buy a straight piece of stainless exhaust pipe and make your own.

I cut "wedges" from the pipe and "turned them" to get the bends I wanted,

Then I continued to use the wedges and also straight sections, to get the pipe to go where it needed to go,

Once I had it all tacked together, I went back and welded all the pieces together,

and with A little grinding on the welds done, I sprayed it with high heat blk. paint, and I had a FULL DIAMETER exhaust that is still working just fine years later and didn't cost an arm and a leg to build!

All I have access to is an arc welder and my welding skills are not that great. I have only been doing this for a few years and any welding (handful of times) I have done has been on some thicker pieces of metal and didn't look pretty. My easiest option is to put a straight pipe over the existing pipe underneath where the muffler would go and just strap it up. It would be loud, but hey, its a tractor. If I have a chance when I get out of work I will take some photos of the set up.

If the exhaust or manifold are held on with nuts and studs, heat the nuts up red hot or close to it before removal. If you don't you will likely break the studs. I have removed nuts off some pretty nasty studs using this heat method.

You can tack it together and then take it to someone who can weld it for you... OR better yet, this gives you an excuse to buy a mig welder!! :)

So I took some photos last night to give a better clue as to what I am working with. I think I may just do a straight pipe back and tie it up until I figure out how I want to work an upright into it.

This is the space I would have to work with if I wanted to put an upright

A better look at the pipe coming from the manifold going under.

Another possible option to bend the pipe around and come up behind the loader brackets.

Just another view of the side

Full view of opposite side and most recent pic of the tractor. The canopy didn't take long to fade and the black rings on the loader arm are for my chainsaw.

Underneath where the exhaust pipe ends which is right below where my feet go.

The backside where the old muffler came out from and the loop the end rested in.

The broken muffler.
