Wow, yesterday I got a call out of the blue, from someone (who did not talk to the neighbor who's horse I just buried) that owns a human cemetary at the end of our neighborhood. Seems the cemetary doesn't get much use as he doesn't advertise because he lives a few towns away and didn't want to deal with trying to get the graves dug on his own. He asked if I would be willing to dig graves when necessary. Since I should only be digging a hole before the funeral, then backfilling it over the casket after everyone is gone, I agreed. There are 300 gravesites left to be filled out there. Oldest one dates back to the late 1800's.

Never thought I'd become a gravedigger just because I purchased a backhoe attachment.

Good for you for being there Bandit.

I buried both my Great Danes this year. I couldn't have dug the graves without a tractor given the rock on our land.

My 8.5 year old black dane, Molly, died in Feb of heart disease but I had to wait until spring to dig a grave for her.

At the end of Sept my fawn 6.5 year old, Delmar, had a heart attack while we were out grouse hunting. I was in a state of shock since I knew he was going to live to be 11 or so. They got the wrong dog! Thank goodness that we were able to drive our tractor 2 km up a logging road. My wife and I had to load him (150lbs) into an ice fishing sled and pull him a km out to the tractor.

We were despondent over losing our big boy. Two weeks later we went to the pound and picked up a nice female five year old sheppard mix. No more giant dogs for us. I can't bare loosing them so soon.
