s550 trans,hyd fluid

well my friend bought a s550 at auction and knows NOTHING about farm equipment. ( strike one) i checked at napa about the machine, he never heard of this make before. (strike two). I NEED HELP! i opened the oil fill cap and saw gears. put my long screw driver in and pulled up (smelled like gear oil) from bottom way below the gears. trying to get a service manual as we speak. Any hints as to the type of oil and how much. Seems that the reservoir is for the hydraulics too. They are very slow and choppy. I'm not operating till you guys send me info. And the adventure begins. By the way i'm located in New York state. Thanks for any help you can give me.

If you have a FEL, then you need to use a univerasal hydraulic tractor fluid as the reservoir for the hydraulics is actually the transmission.
You can obtain in 2 gal and 5 gal qty with WallMart being probably the most cost effective as well as most auto parts.
Mine (MT190)uses 12 liters, as a guide.

Be sure to clean the filter before replenishing.

Couple of members that follow this forum will be able to supply a manual.

thanks for the info on the hyd. fluid. we don't have a FEL just a three point hitch. i know nothing about this tractor and seems he has found a tractor service manual on line. guess i will wait for it to get capacity chart. i'm sure i will be needing help even with the manual, so thank you for having this site.
