I've found myself driving my Dmax very infrequent due to taking a job 80 miles away. I drive my truck maybe once a week around town. I had replaced the front disc with power slot disc and ceramic pads less than 2k ago and find them badly rusted and warped. At this point I'm not sure what I can due to prevent new discs from rusting? I can't machine the power slots so basically buying them was a total waste. I do use the truck for commuting to work during winter weather so doing any major storage type activity isn't going to be an option. You guys have any ideas that may work for me?:confused3:

They are probably not warped but have rust built up on the slots. You could try fluid film on your next set or just reg rotors.

I would just stick with factory stuff... some of my trucks sit for months at a time with no issues. What little surface rust builds up is gone by the time I've turned around in the driveway and hooked up the trailer. In your case the fancy rotors might not be the best solution... I think the post above hit the nail on the head, if you're feeling pulsing it's likely rust buildup in the slots.

I guess I would drive an econobox if I had a long distance commute but its only 3 miles to work and I often have need for my truck before or after work.... and plain and simple I like my truck! I would hate not getting to drive it often.

Not sure if I've helped or not... Hope you find a solution to your problem.

Unless the rotors have rusted so bad that they are substantially pitted, I don't think you have a problem. Perform three or four moderately hard slowdowns from 70mph to 10mph in quick succession. Do this on a long, straight stretch of decent road, obviously one with very low traffic. Be safe. Do not come to a complete stop either during this procedure, or for a few minutes afterwards, to avoid uneven buildup of pad material. I bet you will find your problems have gone away.

Do NOT spray Fluid Film, or anything else except brake cleaner, onto your rotors. That could be very, very dangerous.

Agree.. DO NOT spray Fluid Flim on them!

I've had several rotors/pads rusted together so bad they 'locked'. Just drive and use them a couple of times and they will clean themselves..
