the gas tank on my JD1020 developed some pin holes again; i had it welded for the same reason @ 10 year ago; well, this time i did a little checkin around..the local radiator shop cleaned the tank, inside and out, soldered the holes and then coated the inside with a red plastic material that will handle the gas...i had to repaint the outside of the tank, the cleaning took all the paint off too; but it was a good alternative to the $450 new tank at JD..the total at the radiator shop was $68..if i'd a done this 10 years ago, maybe it wouldn't need doin now?? one problem i noticed, the fitting that screws into the bottom of the tank has a raised filter that goes inside the tank, this leaves 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of liquid when you try to drain the tank, so water stays there...i will put a new external filter and fix the tank fitting so it takes the fuel from the bottom of the tank..
