Our Rural King Farm stores used to sell Chinese tractors but now the Sunday paper advertises them selling Massey Ferguson tractors.

They are advertising a MF 1529 28hp, 4WD tractor with either a mower or a loader for $15,499.

A GC2610 25 hp tractor with loader and backhoe for $17,999.

I was at their store today on the West side of Evansville but didn't see any yet.

Here's the ad:

Wonder if they'll actually bring a few to the stores, or just refer you. Why not, I guess. It'll be a deal like the Big Box stores selling the D series John Deere.
Looks like "fixed" pricing.

If it is a referral, then it's no different then seeing a truck or boat at your local mall or Sam's Club.

But in any case, they had to work this promotional deal out with AGCO.

They are getting ready to open the first Rural King store in my area.

From what I see online, it appears to be pretty much the same as a Tractor Supply, it that correct?

Since they will be much closer than TSC, they will probably get my business.

A Rural King is twice the size of the typical TSC. Carry many more products. But yes, on the line of TSC, Atwoods, FleetFarm, etc.

It's a pilot program in ten stores in IL and IN and maybe KY. So not every store will have. I think it's a desperation move by Massey but why go to a discount store? No sales people, very little product exposure and just a little self serve kiosk in the store. The employees couldn't care less about the product. And who is going to do warranty and service? The dealers. But there aren't that many dealers around so good luck. My local R.K. has them also. The closest dealer in any direction is @ 40-50 miles. At the store, their display is basically nothing. How are they going to sell tractors? Most people interested in a $12,000+ tractor expect someone to wait on them and guide them through the sale. At least that's what a dealer is supposed to do. Do you think R.K. is going to do that? Don't think so. At mine, they're so crabby you can't even get anyone to help you on something little, let alone a tractor!

They failed at the chinese brands, why does Massey think this will work?
Time will tell. It won't, just muddies up the water for real dealers (of all brands).

I agree, not good for the consumer or the dealers.

Dealers of all colors sometimes put tractors bought at another dealer at the end of the line, how long will that list grow if they find out you bought the machine at a box store?

There are 2 or 3 Massey dealers near me....no less than other brands, yet I only know 3 people who have new Masseys. While they look like solid tractors, slow sales could prompt them to make a desperate move.

Sounds good. Thanks.

It soundls like a mess for the Massey dealers to clean up. They get to do the warranty work and answer questions for customers on tractors they didnt sell. With the chain store there wont be any trade in options, delivery, or price options. Getting accesories added on at the time of purchase like a block heater will be out of the question as they have no service staff. If you want to update your tractor and want to know if some of the attachments you already own will fit it I doubt if any of the chain store workers will know the answer. I plan to stick with my local dealers.
