Hello all,

I'm going to run a couple 1/2" hydraulic lines from one of my rear remotes to my FEL to power a SSQA hydraulic auger. I'm looking for help identifying the correct fittings/adapters I'll need to make it happen. I plan to put a disconnect at the mid valve point. Currently my loader hydraulic lines disconnect there, shown in the attached picture. I would like to match these, and they look to be some kind of flat faced QD. I also want to have the new ones go through a similar angle bracket, so some kind of threaded male adapter is needed there (so I can attach to bracket, same as shown in picture). At the front I'll go with 1/2" skid steer flat face qd. At the rear I'll need the standard ag style Male fittings to go into current remote, then a 90 degree fitting prior to hose connection.

I've looked on discounthydraulichose.com, but there are so many options I get very confused. I haven't done hydraulic work before.

I'm also confused on all the different types of hydraulic hoses. I know I want/need 1/2" and something that will handle 3000+ psi, but which to pick? My local hydraulic hose cutter has one option that he says is good for 4000 psi, but much more expensive than HDD.

Any help is appreciated. I'll try to link what parts I know I need as a start, all coming from discounthydraulichose.com:

QD's for end of lines at FEL:
4HTF4-HT4F4 | Set of 1/2" Quick Disconnects, 1/2" NPTF Female: DiscountHydraulicHose.com

I guess I could use these at the mid mount disconnect location too, but should I find a cheaper option?

I'm not sure what type of adapter i need to go from those qd to something like a JIC hose fitting crimped on the hose.

Rear Male ag style for existing remotes:

AG4F4 | 1/2" Male Coupler x 1/2" NPTF Female (Steel): DiscountHydraulicHose.com

Then a 90 degree 1/2 NPT to 1/2 NPT, then to hose I guess....these things look expensive. Maybe I could get away with just looping the hose a little to prevent the 90 degree fitting.

57-8-8 | 1/2" NPTF Male x 1/2" NPTF Male Swivel 9deg: DiscountHydraulicHose.com

Thanks for any help or advise. I'm out of my element but trying to save a buck if I can, like always.

The quick connects you're looking at are all NPTF. You can get male NPT to male JIC adaptors, then use the common and cheap and easy to use JIC female hoses and 90 degree adaptors and bulkhead adaptors (which you use to put a quick connect on a bracket).

NPT sucks for hydraulics. It's on many things like cheap quick connects but I adapt to JIC and use JIC as much as I can. I use Loctite 545 on the NPT threads.

Thanks for the help, ericm979. Do they sell quick connects that you dont have to adapt to JIC? From DHH, it looks like everything except the hoses would be about $210 shipped with using 3 sets of 1/2" SSQDs, one set up front on the FEL and two at the mid mount area. 4 NPT to JIC fittings, 2 NPT to JIC bulkhead fittings, 2 90 degree JIC to NPT for the rear, 2 ag Male couplers, and dust caps for all. I plan to order all this stuff and get my bracket made up, then use some old water or air hose to measure hose lengths needed.

Any advice on the hose? Thanks for the words above. I didn't know about the bulkhead fittings, but that's exactly what I need!

I've not seen any quick connects with JIC, only NPT and SAE.

Surpluscenter has cheaper hose per foot than discounthydrauilchose but surplus is fixed lengths and discount is custom.

I think 1/2" hose flows more than 1/2" fittings. I didn't look up what your tractor's flow is but if it's close to the ~10gpm that is the capacity of 3/8 hose you'd want 1/2 to maximize flow. I used 3/8 to run a grapple off a rear remote but I didn't care about getting all of the flow to it.

Ag connectors come in ball and nipple end. They're supposed to interchange but sometimes they don't. Many tractor OEMS use the nipple type QCs, and I think they might flow a little better too. If your tractor has nipple types on the remotes you might want to get nipple type male couplers.

The one set of flat face couplers I tried were super stiff, making then difficult to use even on a bracket.

I would not use anything NPT
I would use hoses with female JIC fittings in standard lengths
I would use couplers that have ORB/SAE threads
I would use JIC bulkhead fittings with bulkhead nut in fabricated bracket for mid couplers. An ORB/SAE will thread on the short end of a JIC bulkhead fitting.
I would use adapters for the hoses to couplers as required. Straight, 45°, or 90°, what ever works best.

Thanks for the comments. I ordered all the couplings and fittings/adapters today. I plan to get the bracket at the mid mount fabricated and installed, then measure all hose lengths needed.

I think I'll go with r16 hose. I think the added flexibility would be nice on the 1/2" hose vs. R2, and it isn't that much more expensive.

Anyone know what a hose strap like this is called (see pic)? The ones similar that I've found are round, where this one is more oblong to fit a double hose better. 20190502_180212.jpeg

I can稚 remember the name but, They are metal clamps with rubber to hold electric or rubber hoses in place. They have been flattened to hold two hoses in place. Surplus center as has phenolic type blocks to hold single or 2 hydraulic hoses in place.

I use NPT everywhere I can. Soooo much simpler and easier to find if mods are needed later.

Anxious to see the finished product in action. Post pics!!!
