RTV900 Plow Cutting Edge

I've been running my Kubota/Curtis plow with the shoes in the up position so only the cutting edge has been contacting the ground. Then I noticed that the outside edges were wearing faster than the middle. Could this be because I usually run the blade at an angle therefore wearing the leading edge more than the middle? I have since lowered the shoes to make contact with the ground hoping this will even the wear more.

I also noticed on the Curtis web site the following description of the 72" snow blade for the JD:

Curtis 72" Front Blade
Standard power lift and 5- position manual angle.
Extended push frame for toughness.
Reversible 1/4" x 5" - high carbon steel cutting edge.
Heavy duty trip springs (5/16" dia. wire x 10" length).
4 Pin detachment - seconds to remove.
12 - Volt lift/lower switch with harness included.

I assume it's the same as the one they make for Kubota so they both would have the "Reversible 1/4" x 5" - high carbon steel cutting edge". This isn't mentioned at all in the Kubota manual but at $65+ for a replacement it would be good to know you can double its life by flipping it over.

The shoes do two things. They add surface area to the cutting edge which will help the wear in general and they keep the edge from falling into a joint in the paving and becoming damaged. The wear that you are describing is common. The windrow side has all the weight of the snow on it and thus digs in more. The shoes will help but not alleviate the problem. The main cause of this problem is the plow frame not being parallel to the ground. By not being parallel one edge will be carrying more weight.
