checked over the rtv and one of the lower ball joints was loose.
the ball joint is ok but its like the nut was not ever tightened properly before it was pinned. figured no problem i'll tighten that up. But the nut and threaded part both spin together and i cant see a way to tighten or remove the nut.
any ideas?

Thanks

Dean

Most Ball joints have a tapered shaft. The best way to tighten the securing nut is to 'load' the ball joint. This can be accomplished in 2 ways, place a floor jack under the ball joint and jack up the RTV. This 'loads' the ball joint shaft into the lower arm ( coil spring / strut applies downward pressure). The 2nd way is use a large pair of channel lock / water pump pliers and basically do the same, one jaw on the bottom of the ball joint and the other on the lower arm. To ease the installation of the securing nut, ensure the ball joint stem threads are clean and undamaged. Once you obtain enough preload on the shaft, you can secure the nut to proper torque.

thanks, the ball is loaded with its normal weight, i can jack it to apply more pressure. got a little rust going on the threads, hope it comes loose or tightens for me. spinny spinny is no good.
