I farm in extremely dusty considerations (especially so now with a record drought). That dust will eat up an engine in no time flat (my son's new go kart in less than 2 hours...POS air filter that came with it didn't do squat. Got a better filter assembly made a new one after cleaning up the engine, but too late.) I bought an '08 RTV 500 from my neighbor. I blow the outer air filter clean nearly every time I use the RTV. I know Kubota makes a periscope mount available for 900s, but they don't offer one for 400/500. I asked my Kubota dealer if I could make a 900 one work for a 500; he said 'no'.
Anyone made a periscope mod yet? If so, can you share anything you learned? Pictures would be bonus.
If not, I'll likely make one, strapping some PVC pipe to the cage (maybe paint it Kubota grey so it looks presentable) to raise the input as high as possible. Might have to reverse the direction of the intake (forward vs aft as currently made). Maybe make a screw out cavity at the bottom of the riser (maybe to catch some dust as the air makes a right turn, then be able to empty it periodically.) But that might not be useful as the "sponge" filter at the intake probably catches particles heavy enough to be spit out in the turn.
