Kubota RTV1100 x 4
Hey everyone..

So, we did some more investigation as to why 2 of the RTV1100s that we acquired wouldn't turn over. The fact there's a rather large hole in the side of both the engines suggests there may be a problem.

We've considered duct tape (I am Canadian), but it doesn't seem like that'll cut it, so we are wondering how to go about pulling the engines, where to purchase replacements, etc.

Neither me or my Uncle are diesel mechanics, however between the two of us, we can figure most things out. We also have some various resources to draw on for extra help.

The big question is, do we have to buy the engine straight from Kubota? (sounds expensive)

Dude, that's a bad find...That would probably cause it not to turn over.

I don't think you can aftermarket these, the engines look application specific(could be wrong). Given that these are very expensive, finding a totaled one might be tough too.

Check with a cooperative dealer (cooperative being the operative word). You never know, they might have access to rebuilt motors. It appears your motor isn't up for that.

Good luck!!

The engines in the current 1100s are a Kubota D1105-E3-UV (according to the Kubota Specs). There should be a plate on the engine with the engine model and serial numbers on it.
With that number, you can look on Ebay and Surplus center (among others) and you MAY be able to find another engine. There is currently someone in Florida on Ebay with a pair of D1105 engines that is currently asking $1200 for the pair of them. I would look at the spec sheets for the variants of the engine and see what one will match.

Thanks for the information.

We'll watch for them on Ebay.. its odd however how both blew out the cylinder wall in the same spot, it was almost like I was looking at the same engine..

What can cause that?

Kubota D1105 is a common engine readily available. We have at least 8 around here. You can pick them up for $500-$2000 easily.

Here is a place that probably has used and rebuilt ones available reasonable:

Dealer Kubota Engines, Engine Parts, Remanufactured Used Engines, Rebuilding or Remanufacturing Engine Service.

Don't know about your holes but we modify these engines extensively and other than overheating the #2 cylinder we have not had a failure when making over 100hp.

Ours is the first tractor in the video:

Should the turbo version of this same engine work just as well? I would assume it would.

It should if the turbo fits. You could take it off and sell the manifold & turbo easily on ebay and put your exhaust manifold on. There is a place that makes turbo kits for the RTV's.

The compression ratio between the D1105 & D1105T is the same, the newer pistons are different and the camshaft has a slightly different profile also but there is no reason it won't work.

Kubota's new crate engines are actually priced very reasonably. I'd at least call and get a price before dropping in a used one that may have problems of its own.

When pulling the engine, the entire under carriage is made to slide out the back of the machine. Dealers have special dollys to do this. Its going to be tricky without the right tools.

Only way to know is take one of your botas to the diesel mechanic and have them take a look with a fine tooth comb. 2 kubotas engines with nearly exact same issues sure doesnt sound right. This really calls for a inspection and get opinion from experienced mechanic. You wouldnt want the same thingg to happen again right?

Doesn't the person you bought them from know why they failed ? Is there a dealer sticker on them to show where they were purchased ? I would like to know the why before the fix. Maybe there is an update after a certain serial number that would be very important. I wouldn't buy a used or rebuilt if the unit is in good condition. you may inherit someone elses problems.
