Good morning. I hope this is the right place for this. I have a question for folks that have gone through the insurance process for Kubota RTV's, or comparable utility vehicles.

I have purchased a 2011 RTV1140CPX. I own my home, and therefore have homeowners insurance, and several vehicles, including some tractors, all insured with the same company, State Farm. I have been with them for many years, and know the agent personally, and have not had a claim since 2006.

My tractors are covered under my homeowners policy.

My RTV has a title and APV license plate. It has the turn signal/brake/lights/hazards, but no windshield, no DOT tires.

To cover it for driving down the street to my neighbors, or for the possibility of taking it anywhere to cut firewood, they classify UTV's as "dune buggy", and the cost is $477.68 per year. This is just shy of what I pay to insure my 2009 F-150, which is a fully loaded truck driven 70 miles everyday!

So, I guess my first question would be, is there anyone with a different State Farm experience, that may be able to tell me how there policy described the vehicle or its use.

Second, anyone carrying insurance on a UTV with any other company, please chime in and let me know how they handled it. I do want to be able to use it off my property, as I am actively looking for somewhere to cut firewood.

Look at insurance directly from Kubota, assuming you are referring to a Kubota RTV. I hear it's not unreasonable.

I use homeowners coverage for Kubota F on home property. I use Kubota insurance coverage for the RTV that goes off of my home property since homeowners would not cover it. I use Kubota insurance for the tractor that I move back and forth from home property to rental property since my homeowners will not cover it for use off of home property.

I have KTAC (Kubota insurance) on my BX and RTV. It covers both on and off the property, on the trailer and for liability and collision etc..I think my RTV premium is around 250 per year give or take.. Went up this year because of the value so they say..Either way, I would have to get a $500+ commercial policy to get what KTAC gives for the same money.

My BX runs around $175 for the same coverage...

I also have State Farm by the way and I see that the rates haven't moved much for what I believe to be their commercial type policy..

My RTV1100 is a 2008, and given some slight differences the rates may be similar.

Guys, it sounds like he needs a automotive type policy to satisfy the requirements of his state in order to legally drive his RTV on the road. KTAC is great but do they meet his requirement for being on the road?

Doesn't sound that way to me...Ohio classifies it as a dune buggy per the OP..Kinda off-road with possible forgiveness from my read. I don't live in Ohio, but I am only 15 minutes away and I've never heard of ATV/AUV's being officially street legal..Maybe I'm wrong.

If the OP is doing something patently illegal, no insurance will cover it anyway.

I would check with Progressive. I think I pay around $75.00/year.

Pay around $200 a year for a 2015 Mule fxt Pro - it is a separate policy with full coverage because it is not covered under home owners and gets used on the road.

This thread made me ask myself, "Have I ever called to insure my RTV?" We normally just use the RTV around the yard and farm, but occasionally run around on the roads, as this is legal in MN.

I called my State Farm agent, and I had never insured it. Over the phone, using my credit card, they set it up for comp/collision (with $250 deductible) for $113 per year.

No idea why your SFarm quote is so much higher, maybe something with how your OH classifies it as a vehicle or something??

Are you sure it's covered off your property?...My agent said on the trailer or off my property would require a commercial level policy for both the RTV and BX...I told them I only plow the neighbors driveways (gratis) and maintain my right of way (not my property) and he said if anything happened outside of my property lines, I've got a problem under homeowners. The policy you mentioned was never offered to me by State Farm...I might have to go back and ask, now I'm curious.

Edit: After pondering for a moment, my BX required the SF commercial policy. My quad is on SF with no issues, bet the RTV is similar to the quad. Never thought about it after the BX shocker....Brand familiarity on my part I guess..

Me possibly bad on this one. :duh:
