Good morning. I hope this is the right place for this. I have a question for folks that have gone through the insurance process for Kubota RTV's, or comparable utility vehicles.
I have purchased a 2011 RTV1140CPX. I own my home, and therefore have homeowners insurance, and several vehicles, including some tractors, all insured with the same company, State Farm. I have been with them for many years, and know the agent personally, and have not had a claim since 2006.
My tractors are covered under my homeowners policy.
My RTV has a title and APV license plate. It has the turn signal/brake/lights/hazards, but no windshield, no DOT tires.
To cover it for driving down the street to my neighbors, or for the possibility of taking it anywhere to cut firewood, they classify UTV's as "dune buggy", and the cost is $477.68 per year. This is just shy of what I pay to insure my 2009 F-150, which is a fully loaded truck driven 70 miles everyday!
So, I guess my first question would be, is there anyone with a different State Farm experience, that may be able to tell me how there policy described the vehicle or its use.
Second, anyone carrying insurance on a UTV with any other company, please chime in and let me know how they handled it. I do want to be able to use it off my property, as I am actively looking for somewhere to cut firewood.
