I use my RTV on the farm everyday, I couldn't imagine ever going without one now that I'm spoiled. While making my daily rounds I hop on and off placing it into neutral and setting the brake multiple times, leaving the engine running. It has happened on an occasion or two that in a hurry I (and others) have pulled off again with the brake still engaged. So I was wondering what you all think about a buzzer some how connected to the park break light switch and the switch that wont allow the machine to be started in gear, so it would sound if the brake was on and the transmission in gear?? Also any insight into how this may be accomplished would be great. Thanks in advance.

I think a simple push button switch mounted on the brake lever so that when it is completey disengaged the circuit is interrupted and when the lever is pulled up it closes the circuit to a light that you could mount on the dash. I had mine partially engaged yesterday as a matter of fact and drove it about 500 feet. The last 100 feet or so the brake had gotten hot and was holding fairly well. I thought I was having fuel problems as it wouldnt go very fast and when I floored it it would slow down. I didnt realize that the brake was on till I stopped and smelled the brake lining burning. Usually I pull it up hard and if wont move with it on, but that time I just lightly engaged it to keep it from rolling on a very slight incline. Just have to remember to set it firmly and you wont forget because it wont move with it fully on.

The RTV already has a dash light to indicate the park brake is on, what I would like to add is a buzzer that sounds only when the brake is on and the trans is in gear.

Interesting...I have a RTV900 and thought I was the only one that did this...in reading some of the ideas, i got thinking about my Zmower - the engine will stall if you try to move it with the park break on...maybe Kubota could put in some type of safety feature like this...and make an after-market kit.

If it has 2 wires going to the light hook up the 2 wires from the buzzer to these. Should be a simple task.

The point that no one gets is that I want it to sound ONLY when the park brake is on AND in gear at the same time.

I think the same principle as the light on the dash but add another microswitch to the gear shift so if it is engaged it will complete the circuit to your buzzer. The light will come on when brake is engaged but the buzzer wont sound till you put it in gear..

Much easier IMHO to just get in the habit of heavy setting the brake. You wont go anywhere with it set hard. Only problem I ever have is if I lightly set it and then you dont always notice it, but I now try to set it firmly each time and if you put it in gear, you dont move till the brake is released. Mutliple drivers may create a problem though and they may even drive it around with the buzzer going off and say whats that noise.

Your having the same issues that I was having with my tractors. I thought about an audible alarm and had one to install but thought it would be annoying and intrusive so I wired in a larger LED blinking light and placed in in an area where I'd notice it better than the one in the cluster and it worked. I'm happy with it check out the video.

I still like the idea of an 'audible alarm' , not necessarily a 'beep', more like a recording...........' Hey butthead, release the brake'

Might get my attention on the tractor.........but then again, I might think it's the wife hollerin, and ignore that too :laughing:
