RTV 500 wiring harness under hood

I literally "lifted the hood" of my Kubota 500 over the weekend (to investigate a squeky steering column) and discovered a wiring harness that appeared to allow for additional equipment/lights to be added. But I am the first to admit I don't know much about wiring, so was curious if any other 500 owners know what this is for? It was located generally straight in front of the steering wheel (under the hood).

Are you talking about the "triangle" looking plug? If so I can tell you that one of them is a ground and another is a key switched power (red/???) I've used that with some pin connectors to add accessories to my 500. :thumbsup:

On mine it was the bushing in the column..Pulled it out and white greased it..Took care of the problem.

The bushing comes out easy enough, takes some work to get it back in.

To get to the bushing do you need to pull the wheel? If so how do you pull that off? Mine's got the squeak too, I tried out a demo unit when I bought mine and ended up buying the new one for a bit more because I couldn't stand the squeak....then after about 8 hrs mine was squeaking too. :confused2:

You have to pull the sterring wheel...That's easy. You can try to work some grease down into the busing without removing it...Might have better luck with trying it that way than I did. Need to lube up the inside of the rubber busing against the sterring shaft. That should be a bearing and not rubber.

That fixed mine anyway.

Try silicone spray and perhaps you can reach the area without removing anything. This stuff works wonders on squeaks.

I used PB Blaster Garage Door spray lube on mine and so far it is not squeaking and it turns easier as well. I couldn't pull my steering wheel either and with it pretty cold, I did not want to chance useing a wheel puller. So I just popped the steering wheel nut cover off and sprayed it freely, then worked the steering wheel and sprayed it again liberally.

That might work. It did for mine for a few weeks then it was back. I took the busging out and gooped it up with bearing grease. Quiet for the following year until I traded it.

Mine developed the squeak in the steering last fall when the weather turned cold. I got the steering wheel off by loosing the nut and giving it a couple light whaps with a hammer while I pushed on the back of the wheel with my knees. It is a bit of work to get the rubber bushing in and out, but greasing it got rid of the noise and made the steering much easier.
