Ive talked to a few dealers and none are willing to adjust the top speed on these things. Apparently, when it gets to 25 the 2nd pump shuts off, thus limiting the speed. Doesnt seem to be anything that would shorten the life of the unit but rather a governor to meet OSHA requirements. Any technicians out there that can help would be appreciated.

Any service bulletins out there on how to adjust it if the unit is below standard speed?

If you want speed go buy a polaris Ranger. We have 2 at the camp and they fly. My RTV 500 is what it is. In the woods where i use it Im usually 5-10mph looking for deer. On the roads 25 is more than enough. i wouldn't mess with it. Just my opinion. my biggest complaint isn't the speed but the tourqe or lack of. On a slight incline your lucky to het 15mph and if you stop on a hill you got to shift to low to get moving.

the smaller mule can be bypassed to go 35 so why not the 500? Im not wanting to be a speed demon but I do want to get all i am paying for. nothing wrong with wanting to get to the stand a few minutes early, either.

really like the linex on your rig. You are in fairhope right? i grew up in mobile and live in Pell City now and hunt in MArengo Co. Should pick up my 500 this week.

Yes I live in Fairhope and I hunt in Coffeville and also north Mobile County around Citronelle. I'm actually OK with the 500. I think it should have more power. I can live with the speed. Rarely in the woods were I hunt would you ever want to go over 25. My biggest complaint would be that it drives like a underpowered golf cart going up inclines. Like I said your speed drops to 15 if your lucky and if its steep enough you have to stop and down shift to low. I was in the market for a battery powered golf cart when I bought this so I'm OK with this poky machine as that's about all a golf cart would be. The 500 is very solid built and at first I was concerned about the low ground clearance but so far I haven't had any problems or ever been stuck at the camp. I bought a winch in case I got stuck and so far heven't used it. It has good low end pulling power and I tried pulling a heavy duty drag harrow and never new it was bedind me. Easy on and off is really nice too. Some UTV to me were a little hard to get in and out. If you get some more speed with the HST transmission let me know. Also let me know if you have the rattle issue at idle.

ok, got some confirmation that they "can" increase the speed by the same mechanism that the 900s can be increased. I'll find out more on Saturday.

they adjusted the throttle stop on the pedal and i picked up about 7 mph. Bad news was orignal setting, max was 19 mph. I sprung the $75 for the speedo so i know exactly what i was buying. I will keep on searching for info on the transmission tweaks.

Hey, just point it downhill and you get 30mph no problem. Turn around and head back up say hello to 15mph. Its a 25mph utility vehicle and that's all I got it for. I just started getting some creaking noises around the drivers side. Sounds like the frame torquing a little bit. Rattle,creak,rattle......hey this things really quiet. I love it though. I always enjoy the ride.

i have a new whining noise coming from my passenger seat area but it stops when my wife gets out, lol. So far so good. My almost 8 year old daughter loves it. I've been teaching her how to drive it, i just make sure that I hide the keys as she gets older.. Cant wait to get a winch, some gun racks and other accessories for it. I'm also picking up the shop service manual soon.

My daughters love to drive it too. I bought it just because of that reason. I new the fastest they could go is slow and I don't worry about them going 50mph and hitting a tree. I almost had a major accident the other day when my golden retriever hopped in for our daily ride to the lake and he lays right on the accelerator. Of course I had it in gear. It takes off headed for my house when I whistle for him and thank God he jumps out for me. Won't leave it in gear any more while he's around. I had thoughts of me or my children being in front and run over. My other dog chews up my parking brake lever and this one tries to mow down my house. Maybe I should go ahead and just shoot em. Be careful out there, accidents are waiting to happen.
