Shifting is a bit of an art sometimes....brute force isn't the answer....it's a mix of tapping the throttle, slight lever pressure, brake. In and out of 4 wheel drive is occasionally an art too....a mix of gentle pressure on the lever, turning steering wheel right/left, slow speed while slowly letting off of the gas....a mix of this assists the front gears in disengaging...takes pressure off....when it's ready to shift, it happens fast and easily...it's a matter of finding the right "spot"
Hard to explain but not a problem, becomes almost automatic after a couple of experiences...my wife drives the RTV, loves to...has mastered the technique and does not complain, so not a big deal, just a tad of a surprise at the start...
The start/stop characteristics are now ideal, IMHO....on the new RTVs...older models were very aggressive in stopping and needed the kit. I never use brake for stopping unless I'm pulling a loaded trailer....highest load so far is 1000 gallon metal trailer filled with water...I'm kinda careful with it!!
If you want a little extra as part of your purchase...negotiate for a shop manual...about 100 dollars otherwise...and all fluids and filters for first change...SUDT is not necessary where I am...some people say it's some better under extreme cold conditions...I dunno...except it is VERY EXPENSIVE and not required by Kubota. The topic has been well covered on TBN...typically as relates to tractors.
