OK! Finally got my 1600 up and running - but not without a LOT of help from the great folks here. Elec sys - charging. Hydraulics - working. Now that I can pick up the tiller I need to get it in servicable condition. The dip stick is dry so I need to add ?some fluid. Is 90Wt gear oil the proper fluid? Also would like to drain the device before refilling but can't seem to find a drain plug. Also there are 2 yellow ?filler caps - the one in the center has the dipstick but the one on the right (when viewed from behind) is only a cap. Are there 2 separate cavities?

If there's not a drain plug, you can always use a suction pump/device to pull out whatever fluid is in there now.

Just one oil cavity. Might try turning it over, really, I'm not joking. 90 weight is correct.

Just to be clear - you are talking about maintaining the tiller, right?

My RS1400 has a drain plug at the lowest point so I thought your model would too. Try removing the lowest bolt at the lowest bearing.

Don't forget to grease the 'sealed' bearing over on the opposite end of the tine shaft. Better yet, one of the dealers who posts here recommended replace that bearing with a brand new sealed bearing, before the old one seizes and ruins the tiller. It's not very expensive.

There is only one oil cavity. It takes hours for the new oil to settle in so check the dipstick a couple of times.

Well yes I am talking maintenance but since this is new to me device and the prior owner/user (my F-I-L) was a minimalist in regards to maint I go over it well before using it - like the tractor - I am servicing it before I put it to use. Big thanks on the bearing tip! I will open that up today as well.

I have a RS1202,There is a drain plug for the top center gearbox and a drain plug on the lowest point of the chaincase on the side of the tiller. The drainplugs are 10mm with 12mm Oring gasket.
