I have a L2350 and the RPM gauge is always pegged-out to max. even at
1/2 idle and is 3/4 on the gauge at low idle. Anyone ever experience this type of problem?. I'm somewhat mechanically-inclined but never worked on a tractor gauge. It looks like the cable follows between the fuel tank to the motor. Is this going to require removing the tank to access a repair?..I have a full tank for winter storage, don't want to drain it during winter and having a hard start-up in spring, if I can avoid it.

It might be..??...but in this day and age I cant belive that your "tachometer" isnt electrical...hence no "cable". Pinched wire?..shorted resistor..?...etc may be causing the problem. Might even be "loose" where its connected.???

Cable could be broken, gauge could be broken. All the B and BX Kubotas except for maybe the B2630/B3030 have cable driven tachs. Pull the dash, disconnect the tach cable and see if the internal cable turns when the engine is running. That will tell you if it's the gauge or the cable.

Is that right?? Actual cable drive. Geeze! Wonder why in this day and age it isnt electronic?? I'll see what sort mine is this spring when I tear into it for the alternator upgrade

Absolutely, without a doubt.

My cable Tach on a L3710 is doing the same thing. I took the Tach out of the dash panel. The cable turns what looks like a small clutch system that uses a spring to work against the spinning clutch. I cleaned it out and that didn't help. I put lubricant on it and it got better, but it is still 500-1000 rpm high, and jerky. The Tach is pretty much useless like this and still pegs out before PTO speed.

I just haven't decided to part with $275 dollars for a new tach, or $320 for a complete new dash panel.

Just like on old cars often when you see them jerking what you have is a broken wire in the cable that is sticking on the casing and when it releases it drives up the speed. Might also be lower when it catches so it really throws you off. Pull the core out and see if you can find an imperfection, look at the outside casing for a pinch spot that might be causing it to act up.

I guess it just depends how much it bugs you. The tach on our old L245DT has been broken as long as we've had it, about eight years. You just get used to the sound of the engine. On the scale of important things to fix, that hasn't moved my needle off the pin...
