I've been away from the farm for some 35 years and am no longer up to date with the implement names. I'm looking for a 3pt disc set to build rows after tilling. We used to call them hippers down here in South Louisiana. It was a pair of 3 gang discs that could be draw bar mounted and angle and pitched to pull the row up after they were marked with a plow or whatever. Could anyone tell me what they are called and share with me where I could purchase a pair.
Thanks
Steve

I think I've seen them called "disk bedders" on here. You might also search for a post by a member named Wall who did a mod to his tiller. That may work for you and could save a step.

Thanks for that reply Bowhunter. I'll try to post a pic of what I'm talking about and maybe someone can tell me what it's called.

Thanks sros990. Now that I know what to ask for I'm getting better responses from the implement dealers.

Does this look like what you're talking about Steve?
All I've seen around here are old, but several are in use in the fields this spring. I've no idea of the manufacturer.

Yes! Thanks Glenn. Have you seen any at any implement dealers in your area? I spoke with the JD dealer here in Lafayette, LA and he's been trying unsuccessfully to get me a single row set for about three weeks. The attachment in my previous post is a picture from the Howse website and they refer to it as a ridger disc. When I search on the internet I don't find any other references to it as a ridger disc, but as I learned here, I've found them as disc bedders. Again thanks to all. This is a great discussion board. Much to glean from the willing posters sharing there experience and wisdom.

My MF dealer handles Howse as well as MonroeTufline, Rhino, and other lines of implements. I bought a Howse RTC 70 tiller last year and his price was about $300 less than the price on the Howse website. You might call or look around at other dealers and see who sells Howse in your area.
The rig I've got was originally a 4-row and I cut the bar in half and set it up to start with as a 3-row. Since then I've gone to 2-row and gave the remaining parts to a friend and he's built a 2-row. I've only seen one other in use in this area, and it's a larger one.
Monroe Tufline shows a "Heavy row disk" as "coming soon". You might call their number and inquire about it.

3pt disc bedders is about the most used name I've seen.
They also come in a two gang, one front, and one back. Fronts are closer together than the rears, dig up and throw a small bed then the rears throw a larger bed.
I just bought an inexpensive Leinbach disc bedder. It only has two 14" disks and also a furrower tine and shovel and cultivator tines on each end that can be adjusted to the bed. Works pretty good.
My cousin in Tickfaw, LA has the other type I mentioned. He bought them at a New Holland dealer, I think in Hammond, but they went out of business about a year or two later.
Searching around just now I found quite a few references to disc hillers as well, but they were all very large ones.
I'll post again if I can find a smaller one for you.
John
