Has anybody tried one of these bale unrollers?

I guess it would be good for spreading hay out for the cows or maybe unrolling bales so you can rebale into squares or something.

Comments?

What kind of bale unroller? We had a DewEze Superslicer that we fed 500 cows through the winter with, worked great. Also had a 3 point unroller that pulled the bale along the ground, unrolling as it went. Worked pretty well as long as you where pulling the bale the right way.

My B-I-L unrolls his bales with his tractor. Raises it up on the FEL, picks up a little speed, dumps it, slows down and lets it roll. If it doesn't completely unroll he then pushes it along with the front tire. Looks kind of dangerous to me but it works great.

Sometimes he also carries them in the back of his AM General pick up and we push them out the back on a hill and just let it unroll down the hill.

Low tech but effective.

I never understood what kept the bale from just rolling along on the ground?

Very similar to the one we built when I was growing up, works pretty well. Downside for feeding cows it it makes a 4-6 foot wide (width of the bale) line of hay, so cows will step on hay to get to the middle, wasting some. The Dew Eze super slicer works better in that regard. For spreading bedding, one like the Frontier would work great.

This is for the commercial hayman...:)

If you read the studies that were done...The money made on selling squares vs rounds...there is indeed PROFIT...:D

I used a 3 point hitch unroller [round bale] works good , they need a stop or brake so they don't spend around when you pick the bale up you have to catch in the center both backward and up and down which is hard to do every time exactly in middle with a brake or stop there would no problem. I like to go around hills instead of up and down.
