Tractor Sizing Rototiller Size For a Kubota L5030

I have a Kubota L5030 and need to purchase the largest/widest tiller the tractor can handle. I will use it on sports fields that have compacted clay. The tilling depth will be 4 to 6 inches. Any suggested manufacturers/model?

Rhino - SM series

Tiller should be at least 70 inches in width.

I've been running a 6' unit on a much smaller tractor, L3710 for the past 6 years with no issues. It's a KK gear driven unit. My ground is heavy clay with lots of rocks and I'm tilling 8"+ deep. Once you cross the 6' mark the price goes up fast.....

I have a 72" Maschio. I've tilled about 15 acres so far at about 6" deep with my 5030 no problem. The tiller seems to be very well made and I'm tilling compacted heavy clay soil. I would recommend this tiller to anyone. It is made in Italy and cost me just under $1500. I have not seen any 72" tiller for any price that I would say is better built. My John Deere 4600 would not turn this tiller in the same circumstances though. It does take some fairly serious PTO power if you are going 6" deep and if your soil is compacted.

I had a neighbor who has another brand tractor that was rated at just about the exact same PTO power my 5030 has, and his tractor would not do the job. Even creeping with his hydro, he kept killing the engine. He had to raise it up and could only till 3" at a time.

The 72" Maschio rototiller sounds like the kind of tiller I need. Is there anywhere in Texas (close to Austin-Houston) to get one of these? Are they also sold under a different name?

Yes, I have found that they are sold under other names besides Maschio. You may have heard of one of the names; John Deere. Here is an article that backs that up http://farmindustrynews.com/mag/farming_new_frontier/
Besides my local JD dealer telling me. Just do a search for them. There is likely a dealer near you.

If you have HST transmission, I would think you could use as wide as you prefer, because of the infinite ground speed control.

I use a 80" one I use on my L4610.
