Rotella 5w-40 synthetic

My Massey 1533 calls for 10w-30, and I have been using regular Rotella 10w-30 but its hard to find. Would the synthetic 5w-40 be good to use? How about using the 5w-40 in small gas engines like generator?

I have tried 5W-30 and 5W-40 in generators.

The results are a bit disappointing, as they burn more oil than with 30 weight, and shut themselves down every 8-10 hours through the oil level switch.

I have been running the oil you are asking about in two Kubota's for I think three years now. One 27 hp and the other 68. They get about 80 to 100 hours per year. To date have not had to add any oil between the changes. Had a change when I went to that oil 3 years ago and then this winter with maybe 20 hours on bigger engine and maybe 10 on smaller engine.

I use that 5W-40 in my B3030 and also use it in a Kubota engined diesel genset I have in a motorhome. I like it well enough I'll keep on using it...havent had an iota of a problem with it

I'm using 0w30 in every engine that I have: 2 diesels, 2 gas vehicles, generator, lawn mower. On the old Benz, it got about a 50/50 mix of 0w30 and 5w40 that I had left over. This is Mobil 1. Most are using no oil at all. The Benz usese it usual approximately 1 quart every 2,000 miles. I go 6-7k miles on each change or once/year. The tractor goes less than 100 hours/year.

RTS 5-40 is highly regarded within the HDEO community - we've used it for years in a wide variety of diesel equipment with no problems.

WalMart carried Rotella 10-30 for quite a while, but the local store doesn't carry it any more. Tractor Supply or farm supply type places may have it.

Yup, and down south it is like a cult..Like Nascar etc... You can use the cheapest oil without issues with 99% of the drains....

Tractor Supply has it but price is WAY over pimped. A good oil for $15 and no more.

I've used the Rotella 5W-40 in my B2400 for 9 years and 1700 hours. Never had a problem with it. I also use it in all my small 4-stoke engines, again without a problem. I've never had the oil burning issues that somebody else mentioned.

The F350 and the L4740 get 15W-40 although I may change the L4740 to synthetic at the 200 hour oil change. Not that it should matter as the oil gets changed right on schedule every time anyway but it'll make me feel better.

I don't think that I've ever seen Rotella 10W-30 in our little part of Texas.

I have been using the rotella synthetic 5-40 in all my stuff for 15 yrs or so
went to it just for the 5 in there for cold starts of my diesel van then liked the oil so well I have used nothing else for years now
I could start the old 7.3 at -30 without plugging it in not a really smart thing to do but just being able to have the capability of starting it was enough for me
I tried extending my oil changes with it for a while would slap in a new filter every 8000 miles and send in a sample for annalasys but after 32000 I decided it really should be changed even if the sample sheet said extend another 10000
