rotary tiller l48

Need input on a rotary tiller. going nutz /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif trying to choose the correct/right one for my Kubota l48. Kuhn 32-190 and Gearmore "e" series look pretty good so does land pride. any input on a good tiller for a good price would be useful. l48 is pretty wide and not sure if an offset or a 70-74 in would be better for the job.would also like to keep it under $3,000. Is reverse rotation really worth the money? do 6 tines compared to 4 really shred more when tilling at proper speeds? offset really more versatile? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The first question that I would have is how much are you going to be using it?

I have two tillers, one 60 inch and a 72 inch. Both are King Kutter purchased from TSC. The sixty inch cost me about a thousand dollars and now I believe that they are in the 1200 dollar range. The sixty inch works real good and is a gear driven unit, so is the larger one.

With the number of times that I have tilled the last four years, the sixty inch has at least a 160 acres under its belt by now, maybe a little less or more. The seventy two inch was purchased last fall and I have not used it yet.

I have a 40 acre garden and used the tillers hard. Last year it was all tilled two to four times.

I plan on tilling about 2ac at my place right now. On the other hand my neighbors and friends have a few as well and i plan on tilling more at my place in the next year after i split rails and build a fence to keep the free range horses out /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gifwhich are my neighbors. id love to expand but like everyone else theres just to much to do and so little light.

what is TSC? that sounds like a good price. why the up size to the 72inch? the 60 inch was offset i assume any
disadvantages with the offset? how many tines per?
my L48 has a 38hp pto and is 70-72 inches wide want to make sure the 70-74in tiller is not to big for the tractor. The min and max can be a little confusing the kuhn dealer is suggesting the 32-190 that has a max pto of 35. will the 38hp pto damage that tiller? king kutter sounds more affordable for the amount of tilling ill be doing. ill be sure to check them out.

Go to CCM. They do or did advertise here. Daves Tractors up in Red Bluff sells them now. I was in much the same boat as you. I looked into a the same Kuhn as you up in Arcadia. I also had a L48.

its either arcata or ft jones or medford for me. ill have to check out red bluff.did you opt for a ccm? how was it with the width and such? ive seen the ccm on tbn looks ok. why did you opt out kuhn?

Neither of my tillers are offset. The reason was for speed, when you till 40 acres it takes a lot of time, thought it would cut the tilling time by at least ten per cent. Also purchases the Kubota which will have enough horsepower to push the 72 inch tiller. The New Holland only had enough for the 60 inch and that was marginal.

COST versus amount of time needed. I never purchased one, I sold the L48.

I decided to go with a Gearmore E-72,gear drive,54 tines,6 per flange.Found one for $2,215 out the door--- sooo sooo many tiller choices out there /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
