I don't have, nor have I used a rotary harrow, but there would be a major difference in this and a disk harrow.
The disks, depending on how many gangs, would dig down into the dirt more than the rotary would. The rotary would be a good tool for taking the high spots and weeds off of soil, but would not be good for preparing a plot for planting as the disk harrows would be.
A two-gang harrow, adjust properly will cut and turn the soil, and go deeper. It just depends on what you need to do with the tool as to which would suit you best. If you're planning on gardening, I'd go with disks. John

I have the Spider Rotary Harrow - 6 ft model. It has 3 smaller wheels, rather than the one large one. It works fine for fluffing up the material in our round pen and arena and is easier to maneuver in tight quarters than the chain harrow.

It will not cut as deep as a disc harrow, and would not be as good for preparing a seed bed, unless what you are planting can be planted very shallow (1" to 2" maximum, depending on soil type).

I think these are mainly used for arena dressing. Don't think they'd hold up for primary tillage like the disc. More comparable to spike harrow for finish work.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll look at the Disc Harrows more.

There is a company in California, called Strathmore Machine Works, in Strathmore Ca. They also make a rotary harrow, I think they invented it, and they also make offset discs and tandem disks. Disks and round harrows are use for two different applications. Round harrows are more for finish work, and discs are more for primary tillage. I think they have dealers in Washington.
