I have never used a rotary cutter and think I need one but I don't want to put out $895 only to discover I made a mistake.
My question is this. I own 2.5 acres in Oregon. Allowing for home, garage, shop, etc., I have about 1 acre+ of field where the weeds grow. Would the rotary cutter be an overkill ? I have a lawn tractor but that mower just sounds so good however I want to be fair with the wife about really needing one. (she dosen't mind by the way).
Thanks.

Any good lawn tractor should do an acre easy

Ken, where you located?

You've not said what kind of tractors you have. What would you mount the rotary mower to and what size mower? What kind of lawn tractor do you have? Is this an LT or a GT?

Depending upon your lawn tractor and what might be out in the field you want to cut, a larger rotary mower may be a better match for the task.

I have in the past use my GT to cut about 3A of pasture but now I have a 5' rotary mower and it is much better suited for the task.

I have a CK30 and was looking a a 48 or 60" rotary mower.
The lawn tractor is a Sears 18 hp LT.
We are located 10 miles north of Grants Pass.

I own a CK20 with 60 inch finish mower and a 48" Bush Hog. I also have a 42" riding Craftsman mower. Time to cut with the Craftsman compared to the other mowers is pretty close for one acre. That is because the riding mower is always ready to go whereas the tractor sometimes has the wrong implement on it. Also, I find mowing with the 48" bush hog difficult and slow if I don't want to gouge turf. The 60" RFM is obviously faster once everything is set up and I'd clearly use that for anything more than one acre but to cut around the house or do a simple acre I am more likely to use the riding lawnmower.

Thanks. I do have other uses for my CK30 but I think the lawn mower will be just fine for the field of weeds.
