Kubota BX / Long / Yanmar EX 3200
I've got a Rhino TW-72 rotary cutter ( I still wanna call it a bush hog ) that we've used for years on an old Long 2610 (65 HP I think ?)

I've recently bought a new Yanmar EX 3200 (32 HP) and I'd like to do a little clean up on some property I got.

The EX is sooooooo much easier to drive around (hydro static) that I'd prefer to use it over the Long 2610 (big, doesn't maneuver well)

However, the Rhino web site suggests 40 HP and the minimum for that 72" cutter, and the EX is only 32 HP. Would it be ok to use it just in the short term (I want to replace it with a 48" or 60" soon)

I just wanna get this small stuff beat back down before it gets away from me. Won't be in to any heavy brush. If I do need to do small saplings and stuff I'll hitch 'er up to the big Long tractor.

Thoughts ?

Thanks !

No problem, take smaller cuts if you find it bogging down at all.
If you only use say, 4' of the cutter, it will take a lot less power than if you use all 6.

You may find that your tractor runs it fine however. It depends on how thick and how tall your brush is.

I use a Rhino 172 behind my Kubota L3240 (32 eng hp/27 pto hp) and it does fine 95% of the time. Yearly clipping of the CRP native grass makes the tractor work pretty hard.

Around where I grew up we always referred to them as "brush" hogs and I still do for that matter. Lol.

I guess you've not tried it?? Hook it up. What have you got to lose?? :confused3:

I'd have 2 concerns. First, I think the 32HP minimum refers to PTO horsepower, and the EX3200 has about 25PTO HP.

Secondly, your cutter will weigh close to 900 pounds. You will be attaching it to a 2,500 pound tractor. And the 6' cutter hangs WAY back there, so the fulcrum effect of that 900 pound cutter will be much greater than a 900 pound box blade that doesn't extend nearly as far from the rear axle of the tractor. So, even if the tractor will power the cutter, it may make your front end really light. If you try it, be really careful.
