I would worry about the universal joints in the drive line more than the paint. And the slip clutch. Paint would be third. Mine are kept under cover. The 6' Woods is 16 years old and still looks good.

If you have clippings on the deck and it gets rained on, I would expect that will start eating away.

Putting it on a pallet is a good idea. I put mine down on some 4 x 4 runners for the same reason. Without some air circulation underneath, the deck acts like a greenhouse, with moisture from the ground rising up and condensing on the bottom side of the deck.

I think that to look right, a bushhog needs that certain patina that only comes from a few years out in the weather. Best to have some cutting debris plastered on top of the deck too.

My Howse is 30+ years old. Outside and uncovered the whole time. For the last 10 years it has lived on a pallet. Before that, I just dropped it on the ground.

I keep mine in the shed with the tractor. I keep it dry and clean. I have the shed available so I use it. For years though our hogs stayed outside. No issues. Just faded paint.
