Kioti DK45 SE HST
Just buying a Kioti DK45 SE HST with a FEL. The immediate need for attachments are a rotary cutter and a box blade. Dealers have recommended 6-foot versions for both.
I have 112 acres, mostly established pastures. The grass is tall now since nothing was done to it last year (although cattle will be going on it shortly).
Normally I just need to keep the edges clear.
For the box blade, I have some grading work to do in front of a barn and I need to level a site for a chicken coop. Other than that, just grading a couple of roads between the fields.
I'm guessing a medium weight cutter?? Any suggestions, advice, etc. would be appreciated. BTW, I'm a newbie to tractors as well.

If that's a 45hp tractor, then a 6ft bush hog would be the minimum size you would want. You might even consider upping it to a 7ft, that tractor should handle it especially if the most you'll be doing is maintaining pastures. As for the rating of the mower, I would get at least a medium duty unit. You could probably get by just as well with a light duty unit like the Howse or KK though if you wanted to save a few bucks.

As for the BB, I would go with what your dealer said and get a 6ft. Since you're not going to be using it all that much, you can probably get one of the low end units for that and be just fine.

I have the DK40se. I'd go with a six footer for both rotary cutter and box blade. There is a pretty big difference in weight between six and seven foot cutters and the extra 15% cut width to me is not worth the extra cost, bulkiness and weight.

Unless you are planning lots of land clearing I'd probably go with a light to medium duty cutter. There is a pretty big difference in price as you get into the medium duty cutters. Something like the BushHog 172 is a nice compromise between the light duty squealer line and the true medium duty 296. I would not hesitate to get an equivalent Rhino, Landspride or Woods cutter. King Kutter is a drop down but many are happy with those as well.

I opted for a six foot flail mower (Caroni TM1900) which is about the same price as the Bushhog 172 (maybe a bit more). Consider a light/medium duty flail as well for pasture maintenance. Lots written on flails here in the past year so just search on TBN.

Regarding the boxblade, you won't want more than six foot and again whether you get a standard duty or heavy duty depends on what you intend to do with it. For most purposes a standard duty is just fine. I have the Woods six footer and have no complaints.
