I see that a few of the Mahindra owners have a fiberglass canopy attached to the ROPS. I'm trying to finish the specs for a new 7060 and was thinking about adding a similar canopy with attached worklights. However, after a couple hours of doing web searches, it appears that the nicer canopies are right around the $400 range?

Has anyone been able to find them any cheaper? I was thinking $200 max - I mean, the thing is made out of fiberglass. If not, looks like I'll just go with a bottle of sunscreen.

I thought the same as you until reality set in. Our TC40DA had one when we bought it in 2008. I bought the Boomer 8N without one to mow pastures 2 years ago. After the first year it has one, best money I ever spent.

If Mahindra will do it installed for $400, that is cheap. NH won't do it for that.

The canopy that came with my 4110 is a heavy gauge steel with a blackboard backer all on an angle iron frame - it is quite heavy and has taken a beating that would have destroyed a fiberglas canopy years ago. I bend it against a tree or limb and just bend it back out & keep on going. My prior tractor did not have a canopy - now I would not operate a tractor without one if I have a choice. I think my canopy was right around the $400 price range in early 2002 when I bought my tractor.

Look at it this way, if you were able to find a canopy for the $200 price tag that you are looking for, how good would it actually be? There have been some guys that have built them out of golf cart tops on the cheap. I think in the long run you will be best off with a good top that costs in the $400 range. Just be sure that you get one of the bigger sizes, you don't want one that is to small. On my Mahindra 7520, the top is 57" x 65". It has been great working on 8 years. It has been a great place to mount lights front and back also. ;)

Go with a metal canopy. After a few hard limb hits, you will thank me later. My canopy is metal with a diamond plate pattern. Also, it is easier to add lights and stuff on a metal canopy.
hugs, Brandi

I bought a canopy for my # 1920 Ford fom the dealer that looked just like the diamond plate picture above. Made by a Texas company. My Mahindra dealer sold me a similar design for my 2815. Same angle iron frame and insulation pad but smooth steel in the same color as the tractor. Cost was $250, P/N 101561. I don't know if that is a Mahindra part or after market. One thing I have always wondered about, with the canopy cantilevered out front as installed, what would it do in a roll over? Maybe bend down from the ROPS bar to the dash? I can't really see that angle iron frame supporting the weight of my cut, let alone a bigger tractor. Anyone seen or heard of one of these after an accident?

Just go with the metal and don't look back, it was well worth the cost -especially in august mowing hay.

So after much consideration, I decided to pick up one of the fiberglass units. I agree that over the life of the machine, this is going to be well worth the money - especially on those hot August days. As far as fiberglass vs. aluminum, the biggest determing factor was simply my purchasing option. I was able to find an ag dealer within 20 minutes who carries the "tractor sun shade" fiberglass model. Which...is a long way of me saying that I can avoid the $125 - $185 freight that had been quoted by most on-line dealers.

So here is my next question - for owners like MtnViewRanch who have the fiberglass unit - I'm assuming you just drilled approximatley a 1/2" hole through the front of your canopy and then "sandwiched" the canopy between two metal plates when you bolted on the front work lights - is that correct? Did you have any issues with the fiberglass wanting to crack? The last thing I want to do is pay $500 for the canopy and then crack it putting on the front work lights.

As always - appreciate the help.

Yes, that is what I did, I only snugged up the plates and used nylock nuts. As long as you pick a spot that has full support between the plates and are not spanning any gaps, you should be fine. It never felt as if the fiberglass was going to crack or break. Now my lights have only been up front for a few years, so it's not like they have been up there for thousands of hours. So far so good though. They sure do allow for you to be able to see, the OEM lights just weren't that good when I was disking. :(

TractorSunshade.com , its fiberglass , but its 10 to 15 degrees cooler in the summer. And $ 400 sounds about right.
