While I need 60" to cover my rear tires, 48" is plenty to cover the fronts on my machine so that would be a non-issue for me. Even if you don't cover the tires, I'm skeptical on the perceived advantage. To me the chances are pretty much zilch that you'll get everything while grubbing out roots so flats is the risk you take regardless of the width of the bucket
