We have voles. No, not pets, in the garage. Two of them from what I have seen. I found the oone nest built in a foldable chair I had sitting in the corner. My question is how do I get rid of them?

My wife does not want me to use a conventional trap because she is afraid that if it does not snap the just right, the little furry bugger will suffer. I don't want to use posion becasue I don't want the thing crawling up, dieing, and stinking up the place, only to find out that I cannot find it.

Is there a way I can drive them out? Should I try a humane trap then drop them down the street by my brother in laws garage:D .

What do you guys do?

Try the battery zap traps..HD and Lowes carry, about $20. The're fast and less messy than snap or glue traps. Worked very well for us this winter in the barn with mice. For voles you may need the rat size.

Or glue traps, but then you have to dispatch them.

Afternoon Wayne,
You also have to find them before they chew their leg off using that trap also ! ;)

Glue traps and cats don't mix... had a cat stick its face in a glue trap one time... BIG MESS... but it did remind me of the old Tom and Jerry cartoons.

OK, I got Lowes site and saw the electric chair for mice. I am assuming that you bait the box? Would standard cheese work?

I also saw the high frequency repellers. I wonder if they are a complete waste of money, or would they drive them out?

I guess if I admitted to laughing my backside off after reading that, someone might think that I'm not a cat fan - so I'm NOT admitting to that :D

Oh, but on a related note, those "tin cat " traps where you put the peanut buttery glue pads in and the mouse enters and gets trapped - they work OK. But as LMTC noted, you have to "dispatch them". Don't know if they attract voles.

We use them a LOT (as in I purchased a gross on ebay last fall) and I have never found a foot, leg, or partial critter. Always an entire critter ensnared completely. Not saying it couldn't happen, but as many as I've caught with glue traps, it has to be rare. Other benefit to glue traps, ESPECIALLY for those with brown recluse, is that insects get caught too. Put them along walls, baseboards, and yep, the spiders end up there too.

peanut butter works best.

Peanut butter is an excellent bait. The glue traps we use are coated with a PB scent. Used PB in snap traps many times w/ great success.
