Hey gang,

I bought a 5403 used with less than 500 hours on it. I believe that the majority of its use came from a 6 foot flail mower which as we know is heavy. I use it equally with a box blade and flail most of the time. So here痴 my question. The rockshaft control lever is really stiff to move. I assumed that the friction was set tight because of the weight of the flail though I really don稚 understand why that would be. When mowing it痴 not a big deal because for the most part you just put the mower down and go. When using the box blade on the other hand, it痴 a pain to have to almost yank on the lever to get it to move, not to mention it痴 really hard to put it in exactly the position that you want. The manual shows how to adjust the friction on the levers but is this really the problem? I really don稚 want to start making adjustments and screw things up. Thanks in advance for the help.

I'd suggest that it is just a friction adjustment, and them being stiff has no correlation with the weight of an attachment used on the 3 ph. None.

Make the adjustment and don't think you can screw anything up. Adjust until it moves just the way you want it.

Interesting that your message is filled with strange symbols, and any idea what might be causing them?

Thanks for the info. I will mess with the adjustments. Reference the symbols, it looks like wherever I put an apostrophe followed by an s, that funky symbol showed up. Thanks again for the advice. Too many times i have messed with an adjustment only to never have it quite right again (prolly pre internet).

I don't know what you mean by somewhere else. No, I've done posts from this computer before with no problems.

Oh its oiled believe me. Never used fluid film. Works good huh?
If oil didnt work Fluid Film isnt going to. FF has superior protective properties. ... Normal things get stiff because the pivot friction area gets dry. Adjustments seldom tighten on their own. If oil isnt working try a true penetrant like Kroil. If you dont notice some difference pretty quick maybe there is another sticky spot you havnt seen.

I was asking if you where typing your post in another program, like MS Word then "pasting" it into the text box to make your post, the ' character used is some word processing programs is not very compatible with the vBulliten software used to operate the forum.
