rambler, i think i might go for flail mower... because rotary mower seem not suitable to the bumpy ground.. thank for you additional information bout sickle mower.. im totally new to those mower technology...

Hi Billy, how big will the stuff be that you are cutting? In your last photo, you showed a roadside thicket of bushes. Flail mowers can handle small bushes, but it isn't the choice for cutting stuff over 1 in. (25 mm) in diameter. The flail mower can give you good repeat cut performance in rough areas, but is far more expensive to purchase and maintain than a big rotary mower. An entry level 5 ft (1.5 m) rotary cutter will sell for around $700 to $800 in the USA. Flail mowers start at $3000 on the low end. You really have to have a big budget for a flail mower. If you really want to learn about different mowers and even see videos, go to Everything Attachments Website. They are an advertiser here and known for great info and pricing. You cannot only find info on mowers, but on all kinds of tractor attachments at this site. It's a wonderful site for someone who wants to learn.

For some information from a member who has used both flails and rotaries, Farmwithjunk has made several recent posts. You can view some of them in these threads:

Also, both flails and rotaries are available mounted on booms, in order to keep the tractor up on the road out of the ditch, and allow mowing in places too steep for a tractor. Alamo is a major provider of these, but is only one.

Yep, you only need to read this post in the first thread to see what FWJ thinks. Good info!

Hi everyone! im new to this forum and i looking for advises from you all :D Im also new to heavy machines world.

I am a contractor and live in Borneo island.
So i plan to get a machine to increase roadside grass cutting/lawn mower productivity. To be honest i have no idea idea what are the difference between grass cutting and lawn mower :(

I know there are flail mower, sickle mover, reel mover and rotary cutter. But some people told me those machine cant be applied at our bumpy terrain. Plus, stones on the road side might spoil the machine.

Any suggestions or advises? :)
Hi Billy

Brush Cutters and lawn Mowers might not seem very different and also might not have much operation distinction as well, but if you go in detail: brush cutter is a multipurpose tool which can cut grass, even bushes and some twigs as well, whereas lawn mowers are designed to give your lawn an astonishing nice and even finish.

I found this website and was pretty helpful.
