What can you apply to a bucket to keep from getting down to bare metal. Would Rino coating do it or is there something else that works as well / better?

CC,

I think it would pretty cool to have a black bucket, but I frankly don't see the need to worry about "bare metal", unless you don't like the looks. If there is any part of a tractor that should not be worried about, it is the business end of the loader. It will pushed and smashed and beaten and that's its job. The metal is thick enough to last a lifetime with or without paint. Besides, if you use your loader it will be bare regardless of what you spray on it.

A black bucket would look pretty cool with the orange paint though /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I read a post a few years back where a someone applied a material to a BH bucket that didn't come off.

I agree with you though, I've never seen a bucket rusted or rotted threw.

I would prefer a coating that was very slick and slippery. Rhino liners actually have some gripping to them to prevent loads from slipping in the truck bed, while a grippy bucket interior won't be a problem when hauling around a lot of materials such as stone, gravel or bark. However stickly soil, soil with clay, etc, might simply get stuck inside a bucket if coated with a material like that?

My ideal would be to have some sort of Teflon type material on the bucket, durability would however, not be up to par with a material coating like Teflon. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm an absolute nut with keeping any of my pieces of equipment touched up and painted. I don't like anything to look bad and rust. However, as Bob pointed out, putting Rhino liner in your bucket would likely be a mistake. I have the actual Rhino Liner brand liner in both my pickup and RTV. I really like it, and even have in on the floor board of my RTV. One of the great things about it is that it prevents slipping; not a quality you want inside your bucket.

Personally, even with my touch up obsession, I just spray my bucket (particularly the bare spots) with WD40. No rust, and the dirt falls out easier.

Give your bucket a good cleaning and coat it once in a while with car wax. The wax will give it a little teflon type action, its cheap, not very labor intensive, protects from rust and will last until you do some heavy soil loading.

You could try painting it with Sliplate. It is a graphite paint. You can touch it up with a spray can and hardly tell where you did it.

I have used sliplate on the underside of my mower deck and on a dirt scoop hoping it would have the "no stick" effect. It works, but not durable as it came off over time.

Yep, clay and wet earth would stick to it like glue. You'd be out there with a sand blaster trying to get it off immediately after it was applied!

To me "looking bad" would be a fine tractor and loader with no paint missing on the bucket /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif It then becomes a simple show piece or an expensive wheel barrow for soft, light weight materials.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree that keeping the actual machine in top shape is important....I just waxed my L39 hood, the side panels and the rear fenders. She looks great, but the bucket is a mess because it gets used.
