Anybody using rim guard in the rear tires for ballest on a 2210? Thanks

I am using wiper washer fluid in mine and seems to be doing its job. Tractor is more stable, and it cost 1.35/gallon. Put 45 gallons in each tire.

3520 with the 20 inch rear tires.

Not yet, but only because nobody around here has a RimGuard franchise. Windshield fluid is comparatively light, pretty much the same weight as water; about 8#/gal. Tree huggers worry wring their hands about punctured tires subsequently contaminating the water table too. RimGuard on the other hand is biodegradeable, and weighs a much more effective 11#/gal.

But unlike windshield fluid, John Q. Public simply can't go out and buy RimGuard and pump it in himself. The only place you can get it is at authorized dealers. And their network hasn't spread to my area yet.

I thought about rim guard, but it cost more and I figured that 720lbs was enough to keep the rear end down. So far, I believe it is.
I have Michelin steel belted R-4 radials on it, so flats are not going to be an issue for what I do.

I can't really think that this little bit of wiper washer fluid is going to hurt much when you consider the 100s of millions of cars spraying it on their windshields every day across the US.

Calcium Cholride is harder on things than either of them.

I suggest you run your tractor through the John Deere ballast calculator on their website. I just bought a new 3720 cab w/300x loader and 4-in-1 bucket. No wheel weights, no liquid ballast. On purpose. The calculator says I need (minimum) 850# in a ballast box to achieve the desired 40/60 front/rear distribution desired on a MFWD tractor. So I bought the optional JD ballast box plus side extensions, which actually cost less than getting windshield fluid pumped in at the GoodYear store.

If you've got rear wheel weights too, ok. Otherwise 720# of windshield fluid might leave you a little light in the rear (based upon the desired 40/60 distribution).

As far as WWF vs CaCl vs RimGuard, you're preachin' to the choir. Please point your attitude at the tree huggers, cuz I could care less. My reason for being interested in RimGuard is that it's far heavier per gallon than WWF, won't rust the rims like CaCl, and keeps the tree huggers feelin' warm & fuzzy.

I use it. Only cost me about $175 and was well worth it. Much more stable when doing loader work, better traction and keeps the COG lower than wheel weights. Good product.

I had it done, both rear tires $75. JD dealer wanted $200 for the same stuff. The company that did it supplies the JD dealers with RimGuard. It literally pays to shop around.

Thanks for the input......

Excellent price, which in turn makes what my GoodYear store charges for liquid ballasting sound like a rip-off. But I'm now sorta confused by your opening post. Was your original intent to find out if you got a good deal on RimGuard, or what?

I'm still climbing the learning curve on this ballast thing, and have over the years disappointed myself on occasion. But this time I went with the three point hitch ballast box concept for the simple reason that it can be removed from the tractor with the same ease as dropping an implement off the rear hitch. Given that the JD loader I got is so easy to dismount, I wanted ballast weight that was equally convenient to remove.

My impression is that despite the ease of loader removal, folks, almost never remove them. I have a 3520 Deere with Rimguard in the rears and it has worked out very well. I too have a weight box which I add when I carry max load in bucket.

I had made my mind up on the rimguard....I was getting it done. I was fishing for any bad experiences. Before I did it.
