Grading Right Size Box Blade for JD2305

Hi, I'm about to purchase a JD2305, I will need a box blade (particularly for dealing with my gravel driveway which suffers tremendously between seasons).

I was originally looking at a Frontier BB2060 (or equiv.) Is 60" too big for this size tractor?

I could step down to a 48"

Any thoughts?

a BB2060 is what i ordered with my 2520. 60 inch is big and the BB2060 weighes nearly 500 pounds. seems like a lot to drag with 2305. i see most people use a 48 with 2305. i am sure others with 2305's will chime in...

I have no problems pulling my 48" box blade with my 2210 mostly through rocks and clay. Although I usually have a load of dirt in the bucket to keep the front end planted.

I have used a 48" on my machine for years and I can't imagine a 60" being useful in my application (trying to break hard gravel with the teeth down, filling the box and dragging it up a modest grade), because I now loose traction when getting tough with hard gravel.

I'd agree with cdhd. 60" on a blade only. I've got a 60" rear blade and 60" rake and use both on a pretty long driveway. The blade cuts and the rake smooths and fills. I try to stay in high range and don't imagine that would be an option on my 2210 if the sides were boxed and I was dragging a big mound of dirt.

If snow removal is a concern, rear blades work extremely well and you should consider it. If you really want to rip soil stick with the 48" box blade and don't look back.

Thanks everyone, I'm defintely going to go with the 48" box blade. Sounds like the 60" could anchor my (soon to be) tractor down! Later on I will need a snow blad of sort, so maybe i'll go with the 60" rear blade, though i might consider something on the front too. I guess i have all summer and fall to think about it.

I just got a 48" Bush Hog box blade for my MF GC 2310 which is very similar to the 2305. It sticks out a little bit on each side of the tractor so you are going to be able to cover your tire tracks. I was going to get the 60", but decided to go with the 48" because I think the machine will be able to handle it better.

I have a 48" Woods BB with my 2305 and have used it to make/widen trails thru woods. Works real well, IMO, 6' is more box blade than I want to handle.
