I'm doing serious shopping for a tractor that will pull out dead peach trees, and do some disking and weed mowing, with some FEL work in between, mostly gravel. I've researched the John Deere line and am leaning to the 3038E or 4105 HST 4WD tractors primarily for their weight and power and cost effectiveness. I'm not entirely sold on electronically controlled units for durability, I like simplicity. I need something robust enough to handle these chores and come back for more. Am I making the right assumptions?
Thank You.

Welcome to the forum

The durability of the electronically assisted units are just fine, according to the mechanics I've talked to about this at my Deere dealer.

I like my Deere 4300 CUT and find it has held up very well to FEL work, and it is HST.
I would like to have the e-hydro to keep from overloading the hydro at times.

Now, as to pulling out dead peach trees...no experience re what is needed.
I use the forks on the FEL to grub out 30-35' live spruce trees with no problem in clay soil. Don't know what it would take for a dead peach, but might be worth a try. :)

Hello Theo and welcome to TBN:)
I think you will find out the electronically controlled units are just as dependable,or JD wouldn't offer them that way:D
As for tree removal, can't say one way or another there, but you will find very helpful info here.

I would also consider a 110 tlb new or used with the addition of a 3pt hitch. About as good a multi use tractor as you can get in the 40 to 45 hp range. with the skid steer front end you can quickly change between buckets, grappel, forks and other tools. The backhoe should be able to dig out the trees stumps and all. You can pull a disk but I prefer a 6' tiller.

My 110tlb has a little over 600 hrs and no transmission problems.

I had a JD970 with loader and backhoe. It's close to the 4105 in frame size and close to the 3038 in horsepower. Simple, rugged and dependable.

I used it to clear trees, stumps and establish small, horse pasture's. After 4 work season's, I sold it for a more heavy duty machine.

A steady diet of trees and stumps is beyond the capabilities of most 40hp Ag-type tractors - IMO. The loader and the hoe was stretched to the limit and it was only a matter of time before serious damage and repairs would occur.

I don't know how many acres of peach trees you have to rehabilitate or how many acres you plan to mow, disc, etc. But, if your budget is in-line with the tractor models you mentioned and you've got quite a few trees to take-out; I'd rent an excavator and save the tractor for mowing and discing, etc.
