Sounds like a decent deal to me.

i picked up a rem 700 30-06 with economy scope from a pawn shop.. similar deal.. very new.. almost unshot for that price.. I figured it was a good deal. the .270 is a nice cartridge... have fun with it.

I will second what Sigarms said: If you're happy with it, then it was a good deal.

Now for my opinion - and I apologize in advance...

Buying a Remington 710/770 series is about the worst possible investment one could make in a rifle. Remington would like you to think that the 710/770 series is a less expensive version of the very popular (and rightfully so) 700 series. It is not. Plastic components, press-fit barrel, fixed scope bases. A better, more inherently accurate set-up for around the same cash outlay would be an older Savage or Stevens 200 with the entry-level optics of your choice.

Again, what works for you is what's most important - not what some grumpy Internet forum dweller says. :D
