What is your choice/opinion on brand quality/price for RFMs? I am looking to go that route for pasture mowing vs bush hog. Just rolling land, no rough brush, fairly open ground. Land Pride, Rhino, ect. Any to recommend over others? Any to stay clear of? Want something that will hold up well.

RFM's are available in several levels of ruggedness (quality). When they are new they all do the job. Like everything else, you get what you pay for. I've settled on the Woods RM990. It's commercial quality - built to last a very long time. It weighs about 1200 lb and can soak up 35 pto horsepower. If your do a search for RM990 you'll find lots of input. I liked my first one so much I bought a bigger tractor to take full advantage of it.

I also use a RFM to mow my pastures. I have a rotary as well but would think of using it for my pastures, too much work to use it compared to RFM. Mine is a Kioti brand which I am told is actually a rebranded Italian make of some sort. It is a 84" cut, rear discharge unit that weighs in the 800-900 lbs range I believe. Does a good job and only needs grease and blades sharpend. I do prefer the rear discharged units over the side discharge units.

If your tractor has enough hp at the pto, the Woods RM990 is ideal for what you describe. It is classified as a RFM, but in reality it is a hybrid between a brush hog and a RFM. It has 6 free pivoting blades on 3 stump jumper spindle pans.

I mow with a Woods PRD7200... 72" rear-discharge, 720 lbs. (+ chains & front roller). RFM does such a nice looking job, I only use the Woods BrushBull for rough cutting and first cut on new (to me) areas.
