I am considering buying a 3039r and would like to hear from owners on what you like about the tractor, what you don't like about it and lastly what kind of work you do with your unit. I also would like to know if anyone uses a 72D auto-connect and how well it works or doesn't.

Thanks so much for your time and input

I've had mine for almost a year. It is my third John Deere of this class and the best. It has the full cab which makes working in hot & dusty Colorado summer very nice. I use it to mow, plow snow (with the front blade), use a rear blade and landscape rake on occasion. I have spent countless hours using it with a landplane rehabilitating the two miles or so of driveway on my ranch and my neighbors. Last year I used it to add about 250 tons of new roadbase. The tractor and landplane have really improved the quality of my driveway reducing the need for an additional 250 tons of roadbase. It worked a lot better after I filled the rear tires with beet juice. That gave me a lot more traction for the landplane while working up a hill. The juice also helped reduce the bouncy nature of the ride since the cab adds a lot of weight. I did a small amount of splitting with my 3 point log splitter, but didn't need much wood split so it was short. It did work.

I like how quiet and the cab is. I can listen to music and maintain just the right inside climate for the outside weather conditions. Before adding the weight in the tires I thought there was a lot more bounce while mowing my bumpy "lawn" of natural grasses than I experienced with prior tractors.

It pulled my dirt scoop very well, but the cab makes pulling a rope to dump it impossible. I searched here for anything others did to use the rear hydraulics to do that, but didn't come up with anything.

It plows snow well, until I have to go up hill into a lot of snow. I plan to get rear chains next year.

It normally is in the barn, but during a big snow I put it in the garage. Prior tractors stunk up the garage when I started them, but this one has no smell from the exhaust.

I had a problem with the front hydraulics. The front blade would drift down in only 100 feet or so. It took weeks of down time at the dealer and several trips before they finally ordered a new control valve that fixed it. Overall their service is poor and everything includes a lot of down time while it waits in line. Their "appointment" is only when you can drop it off. It often takes 3 weeks before they even look at it then there are false fixes and parts delays. This was all warranty and they didn't have time to pick it up or deliver it.

Thanks Mark. Outstanding input. Sounds like a good product and marginal service.

Ive just bought the 3033r. So far seems very capable. I did consider the extra hp but the sales guy convinced me i wouldn't need it for my 11acre block on a hillside. Just done FL and grader work so far with no issues

I have the 3046R cab which is the same size tractor, it is very capable for what I use it for.

I looked at the 3039 cab and it was very nice, only reason I went with the 46 HP was for better brush hog performance.

Thanks Richard. I saddled up on one locally and basically fell in love. Totally the wrong reason to buy a tractor. We are in the process of selling our 46 acre horse farm, so we no longer needed the 2720 we have had for three years.

The 2720 was a good tool and did the work we asked of it. We already had a 5' brush hog, so going larger didn't seem right at the time. It had the 62D mmm with the linkage tied to the 3pt hitch. I learned the hard way, more than once (guess that lesson wasn't learned) to take all the linkage off prior to brush hogging. Those parts are expensive.

Oh well, when we sold it, we missed the extra power. We happened to stop by the big boy toy store to show our new foster child around. Well, good excuse to play myself.

I do like the fit and feel of 3039r. Being 6'3" and over 250, I felt cramped on the 2720. I still enjoy my 2305 for a lot of things. In reading another post on here, one gentleman was explaining how the smaller tractors ride rougher because the find every rut. I am very hopeful the larger tires will not only ride a little higher in the ruts, but also be able to help me perform some leveling (rut removal) of the field. We still have 5 acres. Parts I have never explored. Looking forward to taking a bigger brush hog to it.

Kubota 2350,
What size brush hog are you going to use and what are you cutting? Just curious as I have not tried my setup out yet. I am piece mealing it from multiple locations. I may have it by next weekend.

I am going with a 6ft as the PTO minimum is 31 or 32 which fits.

I have a 6 foot brush hog, the 3039 your looking at will run a 6 footer just fine, I know because I ran the same brush hog on my 4310 which is less HP than what your looking at.

Got mine without the cab. May regret it in summer as in western australia

I liked the fit of the jd too. Looked at a few brands but kept going back to green.
