Ran out of time to bring my 1440v into the shop for engine work but need to get gardens ready. So, my buddy offered his 4710 and rotary tiller. It's about 20 kms as the crow flies between the farm where it resides and my place, but road closures and rush hour meant a LOT of extra travel distance. It will cruise at 25mph/40kph so not worth loading. His hired hand didn't seem to know how a lot of the machine worked (I think over last 3 years he has only used the FEL) so I brought the manual home with me. This one has the 6 x 2 manual gearboxes (endless reliability issues with M-F powershift boxes no doubt made this an easy choice). I don't know if this one was made in Brazil or China and will look around for some labelling.
First thing I have to do is buy or make a lot of bushings to reduce the 3 point hitch holes down to the tiller sizes. I believe this one was originally on my 1440 but the 4710 has a much larger hitch. It is also a much more complex machine. In the manual that was in the tractor - a generic publication for all 47xx series - you have to sort out 2 to 4 variations on every control or system. Genuine PITA. Darnit: I sure miss my old 8N.
Will report back in a couple days when I can use it.
