Returning to the Country

My name is Bob. My wife and I are in the process of buying 13 acres on a small lake and building a house. We want to use the property for a reasonable garden (1/2 to 1 acre), blackberries (1 to 2 acres), and a variety of fruit and nut trees. We both have some family background in farming and ranching, but have been away from it personally for quite some time. I am immediately aware that what we are wanting to do is going to require a small tractor and various attachments (both purchased and leased). I am looking for information about the best small tractors and attachments for use on a small farm. I know I will need a front end loader, disc harrow, and small plow, but I am not familiar with all of the new capabilities of modern tractors. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on returning to the country and good luck with the purchase. In regards to the best small tractors, I think you would be well suited to explore the local dealers in your area. It sounds like a SCUT would fit your needs but you might want to go to the next level, a CUT, due to the ground engaging tasks you mentioned. If you are the friendly sort, you might want to see what your neighbors are operating and inquire about the local dealers and their service department. It is probably more important to see what tractor fits you best as opposed to which brand is best. If you stay with the major brands you won't go wrong. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks to all of you that have replied. I can see from reading some of threads that this is a good group of people to be around. I look forward to exchanging ideas and info. This is going to be a new adventure for me and I will try to share it as I can.
