Replacing seals on BCS 725

I am trying to help a friend work on a mid 1990's BCS 725. We are trying to seperate the back of the housing to replace an oil seal, and this sucker is resisting something terrible. It looks like someone has been in there before and used silicone to put it back together. Could it just be plain stuck? Or is there some linkage etc. that we are missing to be disconnected? I can't see anything in the parts diagram that should be holdiing it up, but I figured I would ask before using too much force on this. I don't want to rough up the housing so that it won't seal right when we put it back.

Hey AJD,

The rear plate is only held on with four bolts and some gasket sealer. once you take the bolts off, a screwdriver and firm pressure should pop it off.

Which seals are you replacing?

I think your talking about taking the rear plate off of the transmission. I had trouble also as the gasket sealer (a necessary part of the assembly) is real sticky and holds it all together a little too well. A careful working apart with a sharp wide flat blade,I think I ended up with a sheet rocking tool, did the job. I gently worked the tip in and then worked on the opposite side working it all apart. At some point it all just came apart easily. Good luck.

Just a quick note on removing the side cover on the BCS tiller. A heavy rubber hammer or a brass hammer on the opposite end of the tiller shaft breaks the seal quickly on the cover. No damage caused by screw drivers.
