Well, I haven't posted in a long time. Lost my home in '07 and went into a black hole rebuilding.

I have a 2002 4310 eHydro MFWD with 430 loader and 47 backhoe. I am fairly certain that my backhoe was improperly installed. I tried to keep after it, but it finally got the best of the situation and sheared the mounting bolts and broke the mounting bosses on the transaxle.

The tractor and hoe are both fine. So long as they are never together again. I could have the 4310 repaired, but doubt that is worth the cost (~$5K). It would do perfectly for any use not involving a RSA backhoe.

One idea is to sell both individually, and buy whatever to replace it. Tough sell for my wife to change colors, and she really does user this. It is hers after all Oh, and don't even suggest foregoing the hoe. I finally recovered after mentioning THAT idea.

Well, I could get a 3x20 and keep my 47. Dealer says that will work. I imagine that would save about $5k - that is nothing to sneeze at! It suits our needs perfectly, most of our digging is 2-3 feet deep. I don't have any real need to upgrade it.

Our property is heavily timbered, and quite hilly. The 4310 has been just the right size. So, a 3x20 should be a nice match. Dealer is suggesting the 3720. Open station, CX loader. Probably foamed AG tires.

  • Are there any caveats with the 47 on a 3720?
  • Is there a chance it would fit the 4105? It looks like it would lose a bit of depth, that is OK.
  • My assumption is that a used 47 would bring about $4-5k. Is that correct?

If I had a pile of money, I might do this differently. But, as it is, I don't. The 60 month zero interest on a new machine may make it all work.

The 3320 is the replacement for the 4310. Your dealer has you on the right track. The 3720 has more hp but same size as your 4310.

I'll bet the mounting bosses that broke are made of aluminum. For some crazy reason Deere chose to cast the axle housings from aluminum. I'd take a magnet along and check out the new Deere you have the Jones for and see if they are cast aluminum too. If so, you could end up right back where you started from, just with a newer tractor.

Welcome back, Mike. Glad to hear that things are comin' back around for you. Ready for some new iron, huh? Well, the 3720 is more tractor than your 4310! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the performance of that tractor. The 47 should work Ok on the 3720. I don't think that the 47 hoe will fit the 4000 frame on the 4105, though.

If everything is straight and operational on the hoe - $4-5K is in the ballpark, yes.

No need to check - Deere specifies that it is aluminum.

My buddy bought a Orange tractor at the same time. He has broken his housing twice. It is cast iron.

But, I am still keeping that as a consideration.

If you do want cast iron back there, you would have to go to the 4x20 series. Who knows if it would make much difference.

…go to the 4x20 series…

I will check that direction. It would be easier if the 47 fit, but, maybe it would be better to move up. I could sell it and find a newer used Hoe.
