Replacing Bio Degradable Hydraulic oil in mowers.

Hi All

we have just aquired some shiny new Jacobsen mowers that use biodegradeable Hydraulic oil and are thinking of reverting back to dino oil.

cons.........
The cost of this oil is significantly (x3) higher than our usual 10w30 multiservice hydro/engine oil.........
And needs replacing more often....

We do not have the facilitys to store old bio oil ,as we do for the old dino ...and our old oil removal service does not want to deal with our used bio when we eventually produce it (unless its 4500 ltrs---quite a few sump fulls)..

We have been told that it can reduce pump life in the mowers.

Its essentially margarine and goes off if open to air.....

It kills grass just as well as dino due to the excessive heat and we can remove spilt dino off grass effectively with our current detergents and methods...

are there any real pro's that should make us rethink this decision...

North America does not have the same environmental regulations as the EEC and we normally do not utilze the biodegradable hydraulic fluids mandated or otherwised used in both Europe and Japan.

For instance, the Kubota Super Tractor hydraulic fluid (SUDT) that is sold here in North America by Kubota specifically for their HST and GST equipped tractors is made from petrochemical basestocks, while the Kubota SUDT sold in Europe and Japan is made from biologically derived basestocks........ /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
