While tilling the neighbor's garden I started to smell coolant. Loose cap. Tightened it. Got it home and went to add water. Half the lip was gone. As it doesn't hold pressure, am I safe just to keep filling as needed? Does not lose level very quickly. Underemployment precludes big ticket expenditures at this time. What do used rads run?

Thanks, Michael

I would take it to a radiator shop if you have to. They might be able to put another neck on it. Mine tends to boil over a little when tilling. My 1450 (grey beaver III) was losing a little coolant while mowing the other day. I took the grill off and blew the rad out with compressed air. Yesterday morning while it was still cold I took the water hose to it. Let dry while at church and put the grill back in. Mowed for several hours in the pasture getting ready for the 15' batwing and had no more coolant loss.

I've checked the level as I've been going along. Since the cap no longer seals tight it has not boiled over or dropped in level. Now that planting season is over the most work it will see till the snow comes is carrying rock for my landscaping walls. This fall I will take the radiator to the shop.
