First off, let me say my BX is nearly out of warranty, so I will be my own warranty station. I took great care to make sure the gasket stayed in place and that it fit well.
Also, I know that some of you may not like particular brands of oil and air filter makers. This post is not about that. This post is about not paying $8.00 and some change to the dealer for an oil filter.
This weekend, I planned on treating my truck to 2.75 gallons of Rotella and a new filter. It was also coming time to change oil in the BX1800 as well. I looked for a replacement for the oil filter and managed to cross ref a ph43 filter and a ph3593a filter.
While at wally world picking up 4 gallons of Rotella, I picked up an economy Super Tech brand st3593a oil filter.
I figured for less than 2 bucks, if it did not fit, nothing lost. Once I got home and got the shroud off, I put the WW special beside the old. Oh, Oh, the cans bigger. Oh well, I'll just change oil then.
After taking the old filter off to let it drain, I put on the WW special, and it fit. Not only did it thread up, but I wiped off the mating surface, put oil on the o-ring gasket, and it up sized perfectly. Filled up with Rotella, and started it up, ready to shut down, just in case. No drips or leaks, and I could see oil circulating on top of the valve train. Sucess!
So, if you're looking for a replacement filter thats more readily available for you're BX, try the ph3593a. Now if I can find an air filter over the counter I'll let you know. Oh if you want to look it up for yourself, the fleetguard number is AF25550. I think a purolator number is A35270 and Fram's is AH19081 or AH19082.
Also, you may be interested to know that the air filter housing can be had from fleedguard also.
Just some info you may be able to use,
Doug
