John Deere 2520
The battery on my 2011 2520 just flat quit today, no warning. I understand this is fairly typical of the factory battery which is part number LVA15187. Had a problem finding a replacement here in Denver, got a lot of huh? and what? John Deere replacement is about $100, Tractor Supply $90. I did find an inexpensive made in USA replacement and thought I would post it up for the next guy that is looking. These may work for a couple more tractors too. It's a Duracell battery, believe it or not, and it's from Batteries Plus (now called Batteries + Bulbs) part number Truck Pride 22NF. It is an EXACT fit replacement for the LVA15187 in my 2520. $59.99 and you get 10% off when you order online and pick up at your local store so about $54 bucks. My local store had it in stock!

The tractorbynet system won't let me post a link 'cause I'm too new (need 5 posts) but copy this to your browser and you'll see it:

I have had very good luck with the Deere batteries.
Not as good luck with BP + over the years.

just sayin...

I would try NAPA first. They can match to most anything. Ask for their Military Discount if eligible or their Fleet Discount. Last place I would by a generic part is at the tractor dealers. Napa is my "go to" place for all generic parts even most small engines.

Not familiar with the battery on the JD2520 but on my JD4720 the battery is a group 34. The only group 34 that will fit without modifying the hood latch mount plate (which just happens to be the battery hold down plate as well) is from Deere. The others have different notches in the plastic base plate of the battery and do/will not fit. Tried Napa, Autozone, Interstate. and one other that I can't remember.

If it works for you more power to you and you were lucky that it fit.

NAPA was $98. The factory John Deere battery lasted 5 years, I guess that's not too bad, I was just surprised HOW is quit. No warning, no slow cranking, just went out to start it and poof! First time I ever had one do that.

Captain
That is how my JD 4300 battery gave up too.. Here today, gone tomorrow..
No slow cranking preceded its demise.. can only guess there are some threshold circuitry that is involved, but do not know that.

Dividing the battery cost by the number of years or the number of good cranks, seems reasonable expense to me.

I get my batteries @ Interstate Battery, prices right there with everyone else & a wide price range/style to boot.

You're lucky it's a small battery. I had to get a 4DLT group battery this spring for the Ford. It was all I could do at my age to get that thing up chest high and into the tray. I think they're about 90 pounds and bulky. And BIG! I ended up getting it at Sam's Club cheaper than any where else.

CCWKen - I know the feeling. I replaced my battery with a Odyssey. Its a group 31 and the new battery was right around 90 pounds. Its got 2150 CCA. Thought, for a moment, I was going to have to call my son to lift the new one into place.

For me - there is nothing quite as irritating as hearing "WHUMP - WHUMP" when you try to start your tractor in the dead of winter.

The new Odyssey battery spins the starter like its a jet engine. I keep the battery on a battery tender all winter long.

My 2520 battery died the exact same way. I thought something else failed, because it went from working perfect to complete junk in one second.
