repairing front pinion

There is a tractor auction happening near here in about a months time. One of the offerings is a massey ferguson 3650 that needs the front pinion repaired. The only thing I know about it is the fact there is a sign on the cab door that says do not drive, needs front pinion gear. What would be involved in replacing this. I'm assuming that pulling the front axle is obviously the first thing or maybe it can be done with the axle in place. Any mechanics know what it would take and costs involved if this tractor went cheap, there aren't too many hours on it, it's regular 4 wd and has a cab, it's advertised as 104 hp but others on tractor house go as high as 130. tractor house values these from 19000 to as high as 30000 dollars. If it went cheap enough it would be tempting to fix up if I knew how much it would cost in parts.

The axle would need to be removed and completely disassembled, wheels, planataries, hubs, axles, center diff. And then the pinion would be the last part removed or first installed on re assembly. Have a look at agco parts for their online parts breakdown , then have a dealer check the price of a pinion gear set and some other key parts. U-joints, axle seals, bearings etc.
