Hello all, Merry Christmas.
I would like to help a friend repair the brakes on his old massey 65. I am hoping to get some advice on what parts I am likely to need to replace , we want to make certain that we have everything that we are likely to need to effect the repair so that downtime is minimized.
The brakes have never worked in the 4 years that he has owned this tractor so it would probably be a good idea to assume that most if not all wear items need replacing.
Any other advice about special procedures etc for this job would be gratefully apreciated
Thank's in advance..........Craig

When you do it try and get some pics, We have one that has never had brakes on it and we have owned it since 1970! The power steering didnt work till the early 90's when I tore into it and rebuilt it. I'm in the process of restoring it and thats the first thing to be done.

#1 question would be, whether you have a shop manual for the tractor. A good OEM, or reprint of the OEM manual is tough to beat. I&T's are OK for some things, but they have a lot to be desired.

#2, Would be your access to parts. Do you have a MF dealer, or something like a TISCO dealer near by..??

#3, You may want to go to AGCO Partsbooks onlne, and determine exactly what you have. An Ag. model, utility, etc. AGCO Parts Books

You can enter as a guest, then enter the model number (65), then manufacturer, and hit select. Next will appear a list of all sections of the tractor by menu, and an exploded view of that section, when you click on an item chosen.

Serial numbers, axle housing numbers are a big help, as parts were different at times, for certain ones.

Looking at the AGCO partsbook, should help you determine what you have, and if like, it has bonded, or riveted type discs. It will show the seals, gaskets etc. needed.

Then there is the actuators. The steel balls could possibly be corroded, springs broken, etc. Or, possibly bearings & races (cups) may need replaced.

Minimal downtime will probably be more determined by your parts availability.
